Winter Gritting and Snow Clearing

You are here:

The primary responsibilities for winter gritting and snow clearing is with Bradford Council and they give details of their plans and priorities for the whole district on their website How, when and where we grit | Bradford Council. So that Wilsden residents have the opportunity to the detailed picture in Wilsden we have included these here.

Bradford has set priorities for which roads will be kept clear if we have major problems with snow and ice. Roads such as Wilsden Main Street, Harden Lane and Laneside are Priority One routes and every attempt will be made to keep these open at all times. Priority Two routes are the main side streets which are through roads are treated once the Priority One routes are clear. In addition to the gritting lorries there are also 20 Grit Bins at various locations around Wilsden and Harecroft, the majority of which have been installed by Bradford Council, who have very strict criteria for where they can be placed. There is also a process where the Parish Council may be able to pay for the installation of a grit bin. Where residents have failed to meet the Bradford criteria but the Parish Council believes that there are particular local circumstances that can justify the installation of grit bin the Parish Council is able to pay for an additional grit bin. Four of the 20 grit bins are paid for by the Parish Council.

The map below shows the Priority One gritting routes and by selecting the dropdown menu of layers (top left corner on desktop & bottom left corner on mobile) you can show the Priority Two gritting routes and where all the grit bins are located. The map of grit bins also shows those that have been supplied by Bradford Council and by Wilsden Parish Council.
